The GoPro 11:
Yes, you read that right. An older GoPro 11.
In a world where everyone is rushing to buy the newest release, this is still my main helmet camera. The fact that I own three of them probably speaks volumes. It might not be the latest and greatest model on the shelf, but frankly, I do not care. I know this camera inside out, and when you pair it with the GoPro Labs app, you get a powerful, dependable little adventure beast of a camera.
Owning three identical bodies gives me an incredible amount of flexibility on a trip, and I use them all in completely different ways:
Camera One (The Helmet Mount):
This is my primary POV rig. I run it with the Media Mod, which makes connecting an external microphone incredibly easy and clean. Paired with a remote control mounted right on the handlebar of my motorbike, it is the ultimate riding setup. You just hit the button on the bars, and you are instantly recording without ever having to reach up to your head.
Camera Two (The Volta Stick Setup):
This one lives permanently on the GoPro Volta grip. It is absolutely brilliant for long days of handheld shooting, giving me extra battery life and quick controls without messing around.
Camera Three (The Wildcard):
This is my go-anywhere unit. It is always ready to be clamped to a fence post, mounted on a bike frame, or set up to capture a unique angle.
Overkill?
Just because you can doesn’t mean you must. When weight and luggage space are an issue. The helmet camera is all I take.
The GoPro 11 was the first GoPro you could rely on. A bigger battery and the lack of overheating made it a very dependable tool
Seamless in Post Production
Beyond the sheer reliability, the biggest benefit of running three of the same model is the workflow. The image stabilisation is fantastic across all of them, but best of all, every single camera shares the exact same settings. When I sit down to edit, the footage matches perfectly. There is no colour-correction headache or mismatched look across angles, which saves an immense amount of time.
If I have one minor complaint, it is that I miss having native Bluetooth microphone support. But even with that small drawback, I am a massive fan of the GoPro 11. It is a tool I trust completely when I am out exploring.
