DJI Pocket 3
Why the DJI Pocket 3 Just Benched My DSLR
Let’s be honest. When you’re out on a long trip, weight and bulk become your biggest enemies. Every extra item you pack takes up valuable space, and carrying heavy gear can get tiring fast. For years, my heavy Sony DSLR was the king of my camera bag. But on my last trip through South America, that big camera spent almost the entire time buried in my luggage.
Why? In 2024, I started using the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. And it completely changed how I document my travels.

My Go-To Settings & Tips
Out of the box, the automatic settings are pretty good, but I’ve dialed in a few custom tweaks to get a slightly cleaner, more natural look. Here is how I set mine up:
Sharpness:
All the way down. (Standard digital sharpness can look a bit harsh; lowering it gives the image a softer, more organic feel.Exposure Compensation:
Set to -0.3. This helps prevent bright skies from washing out and keeps the details looking rich.Colour Temperature:
Fixed at 5400K. Setting this manually stops the camera from constantly shifting colours when you move around, keeping everything looking consistent.Pop on an ND Filter:
Using a magnetic ND (Neutral Density) filter is a fantastic idea. It helps manage bright sunlight for a smoother video look, but it also serves a great practical purpose: it keeps the dust and road grit off your main lens. It’s much easier to clean or replace a tiny magnetic filter than it is to fix the camera itself.

The Ultimate Travel Setup
Of course, a good video needs good audio. Pairing the Pocket 3 with the DJI Wireless Mic creates a seamless, incredibly lightweight setup. It just works. Whether I’m talking directly to the camera or just capturing the sounds of the journey, it handles the job perfectly.
The big DSLR still has its place for specific shots, but for easy, high-quality travel vlogging? The Pocket 3 has definitely earned its permanent spot in my pocket.
