180,000 Kilometres of Grit and Logic

A Restless Soul with a Practical Mind

Most people see motorbike travel as an escape from reality. For me, it is a series of calculated decisions made in incalculable places.

I’m Stephan, the voice behind MOTOTravel. I’ve covered over 180,000 kilometres across this planet on two wheels, but my passion isn’t just the machine; it’s the mission. Exploring a country means getting off the bike, learning local customs, crossing borders on horseback, or hiking for weeks through silent mountain ranges.

The motorcycle is my scalpel; it’s the most efficient tool I have to cut through the world and see what’s hidden on the other side.

Why I’m Not a "Yes-Man"

Life is short. Really terribly, terribly short. I am driven by a singular obsession to see, taste, and experience as much as I can before the clock runs out. Because of that, I don’t have time for marketing fluff or “brand ambassador” scripts.

My gear is my lifeline. I depend on it when the nearest help is three days away. If a piece of equipment fails the math of the road, I will tell you. If it saves my life, I’ll tell you that, too. I review gear through a cold, analytical lens because, at 180,000km, you stop caring about how gear looks and start caring about how it performs at −10∘C or in the middle of a desert.

🛡️ 150km/h: The Turkey Projectile

Most riders think headlight guards are for small stones. I know they are for ballistic debris. While riding in Turkey, an oncoming lorry smashed the wing mirror off a mobile home, sending the entire assembly hurtling toward me at a closing speed of nearly 150 km/h.

  • The Impact: The mirror smashed into my Lone Rider Headlight Guard, buckled the steel, and deflected over my helmet.
  • The Math: A €1,250 LED headlight saved. A potential life-ending impact turned into a "tip from the road."

"In the middle of nowhere, the physics of your gear is the only thing between you and a disaster."

The MOTOTravel Philosophy: The Miles and The Math

I’ve done the math on nearly four decades of mistakes and victories, so you don’t have to. Whether you’re a minimalist weekend rider or a digital nomad carrying your office through the Andes, I’m here to help you navigate the technical reality of the road.

Experience over spec sheets. Truth over trends.
The road over everything.
